Operation Odyssey Dawn Nighttime Flight Ops

Here’s some great video of the early hours of Operation Odyssey Dawn. It’s shot from the deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge who’s AV-8B Harrier jump jets are likely the same ones that have been mopping up Moammar Gadhafi’s ground forces over the last few days. Seen in the clip is one of those Harriers, an MV-22 Osprey and what appears to be a CH-53E Super Stallion, all of which are flown by the Marines. The Kearsarge normally carries a mix of Marine Corps Harriers and MV-22s along with a handful of Navy SH-60 and HH-60 Seahawk choppers.

Could it be the same V22 that sent the TRAP team in?! Nah.

Great footage and good for the marines! This op really shows their versatility and reiterates that they aren't just a "second army."

Because they sent one rescue helicopter?

I guess that justifies tens of billions of dollars to keep a second army around.

Where's all the wholes burnt in the deck by the V-22 engines? Guess another myth about the V-22 bites the dust.

It's not really a myth. If they're turning on the deck long enough it will warp it and peel paint off the ceilings below the deck.
