MDA: Stop watching porn at work

The Missile Defense Agency issued a warning to its employees in July to stop surfing porn sites with government computers, according to a Bloomberg report.

Executive Director John James Jr. had to issue a memo to employees telling them to stop watching porn at work and sending pornographic pictures and messages from their MDA computers. James went on to explain that those employees who continue to spend time looking at the wrong rockets risk losing their security clearances, suspensions, and even their jobs.

Bloomberg’s Tony Capaccio obtained the memo discovering¬†it was issued after only six out of more than 8,000 employees at MDA were caught surfing porn sites. Software that protects against cyber attacks also alerted the authorities to visits to these websites since so many are laced with viruses and malware downloads.

Chase Cunningham, chief of cyber analytics at Sterling, Virginia-based Decisive Analytics Corporation, told Bloomberg that sites with high-quality imagery, porn or not, run as risks for harboring cyber attacks as hackers can hide malicious code on the sites used to hack unsuspecting users.

Curse from Osama Bin Laden !?!… or an inspiration for how to remain FIT spending days/nights of decades in bunker & caves!!!…

  • BlackOwl18E

    Total lack of discipline.

  • tiger

Meanwhile, while they are messing with crap like this. Some disgruntled private is selling all the MDA info to Wikileaks……..

    • William C.

A failure of a private who shouldn’t have ever been allowed to wear the uniform or work for the DoD in any respect.

  • Stan

I am sorry there still people around who need to be told not to serf for porn at work. To government employees, please remember to wipe the keyboards with disinfectant wipes every shift.

Also, nice image choice for this post.

The nice thing about not have a full time gig is I have too much time to surf. Reading want ads get borring after a while. This & Yahoo Answers keep my brain on useful things. Thank God for the olympics. Tired of reruns….

  • Matt

It amazes me that the common office jockey doesent realize EVERYTHING he does from a work computer is monitored. Here we have defense contractors with higher clearance than your basic underling…. those guys really should know better.

I think MDA are being far too kind… they should clean house. I would welcome the opportunity to take over for some jackass who would rather surf porn than work.

    • Earthworm Jim

Agreed. I’d love to take over a job where I could watch porn, too.

    • tiger

I got busted for using the company cell phone to call home. Another place had cameras in the company van to watch you driving.

  • EW3

Out of all the government agencies where this might be going on they focus on MDA?

Makes you wonder if there is an agenda in this report.

    • footyfoot

Yes, the same one as in all the other audits over the years where porn-thirsting people were rooted out of government departments and agencies that WEREN’T the MDA. The agenda? “We spend a lot of cash on you every budget cycle- what are you doing with it?”

  • Mastro

    Too many jokes….

  • Matt Holzmann

as Lowell George once said, “I got a rocket in my pocket”.

  • Pappa51

These people have a mental and moral problem. I really think that we need to expect more from these at MDA or any govenmental department. If they have so much time on their hands to surf porn; we are doing something seriously wrong. That kind of stuff will rot your brain, and ruin your life. Actions like this in the public sector will get you fired in a heart beat.
    Cheers

remember when they used to paint the pin up girls on the planes back in the WW2 days…

    • tiger

Can you picture what they will paint post DADT? Ah, Pass the Chic Fil a fries please.

      • blight_

        Shark faces?

  • JohnB

Oh, those are just research for pictures to be painted on the new (sea/air) crafts.

No hookers on TDY; no surfing for porn on government computers; no gambling in the office; no sleeping at your desk; no drinking alcohol during the duty day; no sex with anyone while at work–how are you supposed to get through the day? These jobs are pretty boring, you know..

  • McPosterdoor

Interesting photo you chose for this article. Couldn’t find any trains in a tunnel?

  • retired462

Not to worry – General (loser) Wesley Clark will take care of the situation (lol)!

  • Dale

Just fire them without severance and say why. Word will get around, and more effective than a warning letter. Better if they fired the bottom 10% of performers as well — way too much dead wood(!) in the government, where it takes nearly an act of Congress to fire anyone.

  • JackBlack

    Porn is healthy!

  • Nicky

Just lay them off. It would be easier than firing them

  • Robert Fritts

Fire them for cause. This prevents further employment with DOD or DOD contractors. Make a example of them. Time to cull the herd from anything funded by the tax payers. There are plenty of quality folks waiting to take their places. Or keep them and demote them for cause to GS-1 pay. I’m sure the wifey will find out the real reason for the cut in pay in 48 hrs.

  • Sergei

Strong wrist push button good many time shoot bad bomd in air

  • Old Chief

Fire these idiots. And fire those other idiots who think this is not a serious matter. And remember to fire the idiots who hire these idiots. If it’s porn they want, let them find a job in that industry. I strongly resent my tax money going to their salaries. And,no,I am not a prude ,by a long shot.Just the average American with 20 years military service and just plain fed up with these jokers.

  • John D

Funny, this has been govt policy since computers became a tool of the trade! All govt computers I’ve worked with have blocks build in and if they are defeated, the managers routinely check your sites. Really grat security at Missile command!! Makes me feel secure in the knowledge that our nuke missles are in such trused hands!!

  • JACK

FIRE THEM ALL AND START NEW WITH NEW PEOPLE, I WORK FOR THE VETERANS AFFAIRS AND IF I DID THAT I WOULD BE OUT OF A JOB AND CHARGE WITH A CRIME, ITS GOOD FOR ALL FEDERAL EMPLOYEES,

  • guest

6 out of 8,000? There have to be more affirmative action appointees than that!

  • Hunter76

If you start firing goof-offs, where will it end?

  • Wesley Nelson

Seriously, the guys and gals with their finger on the triggers think that surfing porn sites is executing sound judgement?

  • USAF vet

Are you kidding? Why doesn’t the MDA IT folks block the porn sites? In 2003, before blocking was implemented, a defense contractor was fired after the IT folks caught him surfing porn sites on weekend shifts. He was gone in three days. He lost his job, security clearance and wife as a result pretty much ruining his future employment prospects.

  • John Russell

I told al lthose women to stop it lookiing at NAKED MEN should be ashamed of yourselves ahhhhh! How could all you owmen be doing this especially on Work computers ?

  • Minottx@gmail.com

SAIC has the missle defense contract …just google that up to confirm… And SAIC does permit this kind of behavior at government work sites and I have the evidence to prove it.
