The Military was never self-sufficient!We pay taxes so they can have things they don't need, and
give troops crap anyhow...Only SOF,Pilots and etc;
get all the money!Blackwater is civilian...

Notice that all of the anti-PMC comments are dripping with moveon.org talking points and say nothing about the agencies?

Acquisitions, training, the overall military doctrine of the services has been polluted with politics and our troops are stuck learning on the job with broken equipment.

PMC's do the job with top tier people, equipment, training and logistical support at a speed and price that cuts out the bureacratic corruption that exists at all levels of military acquisitions.

How are people buying this line of garbage. These people are war profiters and are doing our great country and the servicemen in uniform a great disservice. They offer nothing but general cowboy attitude nonsense and are washed up has beens who cut there time in the real corps to go get cushy jobs mercing out some foreign nationals we have never heard of before. When Cheney and these sith (reference for you han) lords invented the blackwater idea of cooperate military it must have seemed like a really good idea to them. So good in fact they went out and stole a election and pushed no bid contracts to their former company. All these pockets lined with gold and oil, and your average grunt is home with PTSD wondering what happened to his legs.

It must feel terrible to be a grunt issued defective armor, a mk5 launcher with no PST lube, hucking around a M4 that wont put down a ant. watching these cowboys walk by with their ACOGS, hk's, dragon skin and other cool kit items they can afford, all the stuff we should be giving our troops, all the money, short time contracts, its a insult to say these people do anything GOOD for us. They are hired guns, nothing more.

Somehow I miss the option: "They are fucking mercenaries. They and those contracting them should be punished most severely. Employing mercenaries today is entirely dishonorable."

Nice post Han Solo. I agree

Ya know, the only reason these large contractors have sprung up is because of budget cuts in the military.

In the old days, our military was self sufficient, now we have contractors doing everything buy wiping the noses of the troops in the field.

There is something to be said for having services such as cooks, mail, laundry, vehicle maint, and other support being provided by real military members.

I know many think that the core mission of any Army is to have it's soldiers kill people and break things. That is what Armies do best and the farther you stray from those core competencies the worse off the fighting force becomes.

But I am not so sure. Having the military do these jobs themselves is certainly lots cheaper than these contractors, who charge huge amounts of money to our government. But, ya know, when the shit hits the fan it seems like its useful to have people who have had basic, have taken the oath, and can put down the spatula stand their position and use their weapon. It also gives many people a way they can serve their country and provide valuable service in the military. Not every single person is cut out to be a front line marksman.

Besides isn't it important for Gomer to learn the hard way by peeling potatoes and cleaning latrines?

I think we are really loosing something that I can't quite put my finger on by moving these jobs to contractors.
